A boat which is powered by an engine is known as a motor boat. The motorboats can also be termed as speedboat or as a powerboat. These motor boats have engines that are internal as well as external. Internal ones have inboard engines fitted while external ones have outboard motors at the rear of the boat comprising of gearbox, propeller and the internal combustion engine in a single unit.
The inboard or the outboard has power plant hybrid and the outboard in which the internal combustion engine is installed in the boat have the gearbox and the propeller outside.
Outboard motorboats use engines that are used for temporary usage. When the need arises the engines are bolted on the boats. Post that they are placed on the boat’s hull. Canoes, inflatable boats and dinghies fall under this category. But once the engine is removed they are not called and used as motor boats.
The other kind of motor boat building is known as the inboard motorboat building. The inboard boats have engines installed for long term usages. Installed on the boat’s hull, they cover speed boats and motor cruises. Therefore a boat that has an engine permanently is termed as an inboard motorboat. It should be kept in mind that any boat with an engine can be made inboard or can be made outboard.
Namely two configurations exist of an inboard. One is direct drive and the other is V-drive. A direct drive has a power plant mounted in the middle or just near the boat along with the propeller shaft. The V-drive has a power plant in the back of the boat that faces backwards along with a shaft that goes towards the boat front making a V towards the boat’s rear. Of the two configurations V-drive is quite popular because of wakeboarding and wake surfing sports.
The motorboats vary is sizes and in configurations from 4 meter console types to luxury yachts used in oceans.
Boat with petrol engine was created in the year 1886.There was a public display for that first motorboat.
The famous ones are the speed boats because they are stylish in nature and are created for nimbleness. In waves they perform better and when water skies are to be pulled. Because they are fast they are used in bad stormy waters. People can make the boats custom made too. But it is to be noted that speed boats are the most expensive of all motor boats even from wooden boats.
